Dr. Paul E. Savas, a fellowship-trained spinal surgeon for Tidewater Orthopaedic Associates, has now expanded his Tidewater Spine Specialty practice to Hampton Roads. Dr. Savas is now available for appointments at both the Williamsburg and Hampton office. Below are his office hours:

TOA would like to welcome Dr. John J. McCarthy to our practice. Dr. McCarthy is a familiar face in the Williamsburg community and we are foturnate to have his years of experience come to our Williamsburg office. Dr. McCarthy specializes in joint replacements and general orthopaedic care while maintaining an interest in hand surgery. Tidewater Orthopaedic Associates would like to thank Dr. Greene for his many years of service to patients and to our practice. He has been a wonderful role model and respected physician and will be missed.

Tidewater Orthopaedic Associates (TOA) will have a new home September 2007. Our Newport News Office has officially closed and our current Hampton Office will close after Labor Day. We’re excited about the new Hampton Office and below are a list of the new features:

• Increased parking availability and handicap accessibility
• A large, comfortable waiting room
• Separate entrances for X-Ray, MRI, Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy
• Twice as many exam rooms
• A procedure room to handle small, less complicated surgeries

Our new address will be 901 Enterprise Parkway, Suite 900, Hampton, VA 23666. The current Hampton Office phone number will transfer to the new office location (757-827-2480).

Tidewater Orthpaedic Associates (TOA) will acquire a brand new open-extremity MRI machine in September 2007. This MRI machine is the only one available to the public of Virginia. Below is a list of unique features:

• Image quality equal to most hospital-based MRI’s
• Improved quality comfort: quiet, non-claustrophobic
• The only part of your body going into the MRI machine is the one getting scanned
• Decreased time taken to complete MRI
• A separate MRI center located at the Hampton Office for patient convenience

Tidewater Orthopaedic Associates would like to welcome Dr. Nicholas A. Smerlis. TOA offers the only Hand Specialty Group along the Peninsula and Dr. Smerlis will join Dr. Campolattaro’s hand specialist practice. A Johns Hopkins University graduate, Dr. Smerlis went on to the University of Maryland School of Medicine and earned his four-year residency from the University of Rochester. Dr. Smerlis will come to TOA from Winston-Salem, North Carolina having finished his fellowship-training in hand surgery at Wake Forest University.
